What We Do

Building a Better Business Environment for Tanzania

From policy advocacy to capacity building, TPSF's work spans the entire ecosystem of private sector development — so that businesses of every size can grow, compete, and create jobs.

Our mandate in practice

We coordinate programmes across advocacy, regulatory reform, research, and skills — always with the goal of a more competitive, transparent, and inclusive economy. Member associations and companies rely on TPSF to convene dialogue, produce evidence, and follow through on reforms that matter for everyday business.

The sections below outline how we organise that work — from flagship platforms like the National Business Council to sector-specific initiatives and knowledge products used by firms across Tanzania.

Our Core Areas of Work

Policy Advocacy

We represent the collective voice of the private sector in national and regional policy processes. Through evidence-based policy briefs, position papers, and direct engagement with government ministries, regulatory agencies, and Parliament, TPSF ensures that business interests are heard at the highest levels.

  • National Business Council (NBC) representation
  • Regulatory reform engagement
  • EAC and AfCFTA trade policy dialogue

Business Environment Reform

TPSF monitors the regulatory and policy landscape to identify bottlenecks that hinder investment and competitiveness. We work with government agencies, donors, and development partners to drive structural improvements in the ease of doing business in Tanzania.

  • Investment climate diagnostics
  • Doing Business reform agenda
  • Taxation and customs simplification

Capacity Building

We strengthen the institutional capacity of member organisations and business associations through training, mentorship, peer learning, and access to technical expertise. We also support SMEs with practical tools for growth and formalisation.

  • Business Association Strengthening
  • SME access to finance advisory
  • Women and youth entrepreneurship

Research & Knowledge

TPSF publishes research, policy briefs, and sector analyses that inform government decision-making and help businesses understand the economic landscape. Our knowledge products are freely available to members and the public.

  • Annual Private Sector Report
  • Sector-specific policy briefs
  • Trade and investment data
