TPSF Empowers 83 Tanzanian Businesses Through AfDB-Funded Entrepreneurship Training Program

TPSF and AfDB Drive Entrepreneurial Excellence in Dar es Salaam

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – In a significant boost to local entrepreneurship, the Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF), with support from the African Development Bank (AfDB), recently concluded an intensive EMPRETEC entrepreneurship training program for 83 businesses. The initiative, part of the Africa Franchising Accelerator Project (AFRAP), underscores a shared commitment to fostering economic integration, job creation, and sustainable growth across Africa.

A Rigorous Journey from Interest to Achievement

The project began with overwhelming interest, attracting 230 businesses eager to enhance their franchising capabilities. After a stringent evaluation process, 120 enterprises were shortlisted, with 83 completing the rigorous six-day EMPRETEC training—a globally recognized program designed to cultivate entrepreneurial skills, innovation, and business management excellence.

Objectives of the Africa Franchising Accelerator Project

  • Strengthen Tanzania’s franchising ecosystem.

  • Build capacity for homegrown brands to compete regionally and globally.

  • Support the establishment of the Franchise Association of Tanzania.

  • Drive cross-continental economic integration and poverty reduction.

Celebrating Dedication and Resilience

At the certificate award ceremony, TPSF highlighted the trainees’ unwavering commitment. “These certificates symbolize more than completion—they reflect hard work, resilience, and the transformative knowledge gained,” said a TPSF representative. The foundation also acknowledged the AfDB’s pivotal role in funding and facilitating the project, calling it a “cornerstone of success.”

A Call to Innovate and Scale New Heights

Inspiring words were shared with graduates, urging them to leverage their newfound skills:
“This training is a launchpad, not a finish line. Continue innovating, collaborating, and striving for excellence. You are the architects of Tanzania’s economic future.”

The Bigger Picture: Franchising as a Catalyst for Growth

Franchising is a powerful tool for scaling businesses and creating jobs. By equipping local enterprises with franchising expertise, the project aims to:

  • Unlock opportunities for SMEs to expand across Africa.

  • Strengthen intra-African trade under the AfCFTA (African Continental Free Trade Area).

  • Reduce poverty through sustainable business models.

What’s Next?

TPSF and AfDB plan to expand such initiatives, with a focus on mentoring, access to finance, and policy advocacy to nurture Tanzania’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. Graduates are encouraged to join the Franchise Association of Tanzania to further amplify their impact.

Conclusion
The success of the EMPRETEC training marks a milestone in Tanzania’s journey toward a vibrant, inclusive economy. As these 83 businesses embark on their growth journeys, they carry the potential to inspire thousands more, proving that collaboration between institutions like TPSF and AfDB can turn ambition into tangible progress.
